E3 2023 has officially been cancelled. ESA and ReedPop announced this week.
In a press release (via IGN), the organizers wrote that it was a very difficult decision to drop this year’s game fair. In the end, there just weren’t enough developers and publishers who had the opportunity to participate.
- This was a difficult decision because of all the effort we and our partners put into getting this event off the ground, but we had to do what’s right for the industry and what’s right for E3.
- We understand that interested companies can’t have playable demos ready and that challenges related to resources have prevented many from participating at E3 this summer. For those who had committed to be at E3 2023, we apologize that we cannot hold the show you deserve and the one you expect from ReedPop’s other events, reads the statement.
Furthermore, ESA and ReedPop wrote that they will continue to work together on future E3 arrangements. What that means is not yet clear.
E3 2023 – which was supposed to take place between June 13th and 16th- was supposed to be the big comeback for the games fair, after several years of covid interruption. However, things started to go sour when Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo announced cancellations earlier this year. The big three were followed by Ubisoft, Sega and Tencent, and without interest it eventually became impossible to implement.
