The new cable standard 12VHPWR that nvidia is Pushing is having major issues! Reports are coming in about the cable melting at the GPU side.
The reddit user “reggie_gakil” reported on this this week.
The problem is that the 12VHPWR cable can simply cause overheating which can damage both the card and the cable – in this case the cable to a Gigabyte RTX 4090 and the card itself.
Nvidia now says it’s investigating what’s going on, which may suggest this isn’t an isolated issue.
The problem seems to be due to bending of the new ATX type cable. As for now nvidia informs that leaving the cable some room and trying not to bend it will help counter these issues! Beware!
