Project : Drift Review

With the recent influx of the mobile market in nearly every imaginable genre over the last few years the racing genre specifically has seen a massive rise in release numbers yet it seems only a handful of these truly excel. Usually these are the releases by the big boys in the mobile scene, the AAA companies so to speak.

Project : Drift aims to tackle some of these bigger titles in a very ambitious attempt to derail the market and focus the traffic on itself. The game has to be one of the best mobile games out this year so far, especially in the racing scene. The game delivers on some very big ambitions and becomes an ultimately challenging but worthwhile experience.

The premise is as simple as the title suggests, drift. The game handles like a run of the mill driving game, until you hit a turn or corner, this is where the skill comes into play. Controlling the cars can be very challenging but once you have it down and practiced it becomes easier and very fun. Although the controls aren’t perfect, they are more than passable with the cars feeling unique and sensitive in alternate ways.

There is a massive selection of cars to choose from once you enter your garage, each unlockable buy buying it with the ingame currency. The cars are stunningly detailed with unbelievable quality, especially for a mobile title. There is a massive selection of tracks to unlock and choose from, taking you to some riveting and exotic locations to play on.

Graphics in the title are especially vivid and detailed. The cars look fantastic and right up there with the best of them. The tracks however fall a bit short but don’t look bad at all and more than manages to hold their own against some heavy opposition. The interface is streamlined and smooth if a bit basic and dull at times.

This is one of those titles that not everyone would enjoy as the niche isn’t up everyone’s alley and it definitely doesn’t fall into the casual market. If you are someone who loves cars, speed and racing however; you can be assured you’ll love this game as it takes all those things and wraps them up into a great package of fun.
